Our promises

What we collect right now (the beta)

WhatWhyHow long we keep it
Your email, what you do in music, your city, and which link brought you (for example our Instagram, a flyer, or a friend's invite link), if you join the waitlistTo send your invite and beta updatesUntil you ask us to delete it, or 12 months after the beta ends
Your answers if you fill out the feedback form, plus your browser type (for example "iPhone Safari"), linked to your invite codeTo improve the app and fix device-specific bugsSame as above
If you create an account: your email, your password (stored only as a salted one-way hash, never readable), your profile (name, username, seats, genres, neighborhood, bio, "looking for", the social links you add), who you follow, events you post, events you mark "I'm going", and when you were last activeTo run your account and show your profile to other membersUntil you delete your account (Settings → Delete my account removes it right away)
A record of when your invite code was used and the app was opened (no IP address attached)To know if the beta is workingUntil you ask us to delete it, or 12 months after the beta ends
Two cookies: one remembers your invite code, one keeps you logged inSo you don't have to type the code or log in every visit. No ad or tracking cookies.90 days each (logging out ends the login cookie)

Your location

Wavmap never asks your phone for your location. You pick a neighborhood from a list. If you choose to show on the map, other members see a soft circle about 700 m wide, moved off-center from the neighborhood, never a pin. Ghost mode (nobody sees you) is the default. You can also show only to people you follow who follow you back.

Wavmap is for people 18 and older.

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes basic technical data (such as IP addresses) to deliver the site and block attacks. We don't use that data to track you.

Who we share it with

Nobody, except the service providers that run the site for us under contract (today: Cloudflare for hosting and storage). They may only use your data to provide that service. We will disclose information if the law requires it, for example under a valid court order.

Location in the real app

When the full app launches, location will work like this: sharing is off by default (Ghost mode); when you turn it on, other people see only a general area of about a quarter of a square mile, never your exact spot; sharing turns itself off on the timer you choose; and studios and venues show a business address only because they choose to. Your exact location is treated as sensitive information under California law. We use it only to show the map you asked for, and never for advertising.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the information we have about you, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time. Email wavmap.us@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and people in the EU and UK have them under the GDPR. Because we never sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of, but you're welcome to ask us to confirm that.

We honor Global Privacy Control signals from your browser.

Age

The beta is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored with Cloudflare. Access is limited to the Wavmap team. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we'll email you first.
